Sail up the Black River past crocodiles, swing above sprawling waterfalls, sip rum in the center of the sea and explore our farms. Find the day that inspires your soul. Once you arrive, you can book as many of these memorable excursions as you like.
FARM TOUR
Take a tour of rolling, patchwork farmland that’s planted with scallion, onions, carrots, peanuts, watermelons, cantaloupes, sweet peppers, scotch bonnet peppers, sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes, cucumbers and yams. You can also visit two epicenters of production: the nearby Grace Kennedy processing center, where Jamaican peppers are prepped to become hot sauces sold across the globe and the Appleton Rum factory, where local cane becomes the finest liquor.
BLACK RIVER SAFARI
The Black River is 44 miles long and home to The Great Morass, a stunning wetland preserve. Sail through blue sea and navigate upriver—until the water goes dark and mangrove trees arc and shade. It’s there you’ll behold more than 100 species of birds, a bounty of tarpon and snook and the Crocodylus acutus (a smaller, less-aggressive version of its African cousins).
YS FALLS
A 45-minute drive from Jakes, this exquisite 120-foot, eight-tiered fall features cool pools perfect for swimming, as well as a zip line, rope swing, and river tubing for the brave ones in your bunch! En route is great dining at Middle Quarters and Bamboo Avenue, the best place to stop for piping-hot pepper shrimp and icy cold coconut jelly.
FLOYD’S PELICAN BAR
Take a 20-minute boat ride right from the Jake’s Jetty, zip past miles of sunbaked shoreline and find yourself at what’s been ranked the best beach bar in the world. Swim around, kick back and catch some rays. Then sip on rum and red stripe and even eat fish caught and fried right on site. A trip to Jakes is not complete without a voyage to Floyd’s.
SHORE PICNIC
Join the legendary Captain Dennis in his splatter-painted boat called Super Cool for a brilliant day at sea. Imparting incredible history, stories and jokes all the way, he’ll breezily sail you for 45 minutes to a white sand beach where he’ll light a fire in the sand and cook fresh-caught fish (or lobster if it’s in season) to perfection. A stop at Floyd’s Pelican Bar is par for the course.
